TruLight FL vs M2 Accents

Both companies install permanent roofline lighting in St. Augustine. M2 Accents installs Gemstone Lights and TruLight FL installs TruLight. The differences that matter at home are the white light, the number of LEDs in each fixture, and what each company puts in writing about warranty and workmanship.

Last checked October 12, 2026. Every published M2 Accents fact below names its source and the date we read it.

Three differences a homeowner will notice

Six full-size LEDs or three bulbs

Every TruLight fixture has six LEDs: three color and three dedicated warm white. Gemstone's FAQ describes three bulbs that each hold a red, green, blue and warm white diode.

See the row: LEDs per light

Two different kinds of white

Gemstone's FAQ says each of its three bulbs holds a red, green, blue and warm white diode and lists white from 2800K to 7000K. TruLight's product comparison rates that warm white as genuine and its pure white as not the same thing, because the white shares a diode with the color. The two rows above the table come from that comparison, not from M2 Accents.

Two warranties, read both

Gemstone publishes the product warranty and M2 Accents quotes it. M2's landscape page mentions a satisfaction warranty with no term, and Gemstone says each dealer sets its own labor warranty. Ask both companies for the product and the workmanship terms on paper.

How the light lands on the wall

The photo below shows a TruLight install on the left and a Gemstone install on the house next door at right, in the Austin, Texas area. On the TruLight house, each light sits behind a frosted diffuser that spreads the light, so the stone reads as one even wash. On the Gemstone house, each light throws a bright point with a V-shaped shadow before the next one. TruLight co-owner Tom Porter explains the difference this way: a 12V light concentrates its output into a bright spot so it looks bright from the street, at the cost of hot spots and scalloping between lights, while a 48V system has enough output to afford a diffuser. The 48V and 12V ratings are on the TruLight vs Gemstone compare page.

Each M2 Accents cell says where the value comes from: Published means their own site or documents, Observed means we saw it first hand (who, where and when are in the method section), Not published means we could not find it on the pages cited and tell you what to ask. Source numbers refer to the list below the table.

True Warm White

Both systems produce a genuine warm white. Gemstone's comes from a smaller warm white section inside each color diode, which they market as a "quarter light." TruLight's is typically brighter because three full-size warm white LEDs at 48V put out more than three quarter-size sections at 12V.

True Pure White

Pure white comes from driving the three color LEDs to a cool white with three dedicated warm white LEDs lifting underneath, all six at once. A warm white section that shares a color diode does not have the output to do that.

How we compared

We read M2 Accents' website pages and Gemstone Lights' dealer, warranty and FAQ pages on October 12, 2026, saved a copy of each, and recorded the date. We did not visit M2 Accents in person, buy its product or speak to its staff. The photos of a Gemstone install show a home in the Austin, Texas area, photographed by TruLight and identified by TruLight co-owner Tom Porter; they are not M2 Accents' work. Where M2 Accents does not publish a fact, the table says so and gives you the question to ask. TruLight facts come from the TruLight product pages on this site and the warranty information page.
